Excretion vs egestion
excretion is the process by which metabolic waste products and toxic materials are removed from the body of an organism
egestion is the removal of undisgested matter from the alimentary canal.

function of a kidney.
1) it is to maintain the pH and composition of the blood plasma
2) an excretory organ
3) regulate salt and water balance of the bodily fluid

dialysis:
it is the process whereby large molecules(eg. proteins and fats) are not removed while small molecutes(eg amino acid and urea) is removed.
it uses a kind of dialysis fluid whereby
1) it contains approximately the same amount of salts so that the essential salts are not diffused out of the blood
2) its wall is partially permeable
3) the tubing is long, narrow and coiled to increase surface area to volume ratio
4) the direction flow of the fluid and the blood is opposite to maintain the diffusion gradient.

-aterioles DILATE to allow more blood to flow through
-heat lost by radiation, conduction and convection
-rapid breathing occurs
-activity of sweat gland increases, evaporation occurs, increase latent heat removal rate.
-metabolic rate slows down

[cold]
-arterioles CONSTRICT to allow less blood to flow through
-activity of sweat gland decreases, less heat is removed
-metabolic rate increases to provide more heat to be produced
